Switch your energy supplier

We're welcoming new customers to EDF. Just complete a quote to get started!

Why switch your electricity and gas supplier?

Currently, it's difficult to find very cheap energy deals in the market. There are other reasons why customers switch their energy suppliers. Here are the main reasons why customers do this

  • Customer service - we appreciate that customer service is really important, so we're investing more in training and improving our services to help customers through this time.
  • Looking for a company that delivers on its low carbon promise - As Britain's biggest generator of zero carbon electricity(1), we’re busy building Britain’s wind, nuclear and solar energy supply – to reduce our reliance on energy imports and help prevent future gas price rises.
  • Getting the best tariff that suits your needs - the best tariff may not necessarily be the cheapest. You may want a deal that includes things like EV and need a tariff that can help you charge your car cheaply overnight.

Looking for a better energy price than your current energy supplier? Leave us your email address, and we'll keep you updated when we have more information. We look forward to you switching to EDF!

Top 5 questions about switching energy supplier

Here are the top five questions many of you ask when switching electricity and gas providers. If you'd like to know more, read our handy guide on switching energy suppliers

It's best to have your recent energy bill to hand as that will have all the information you need, including your electricity and/or gas use. If you can't find it, don't worry. As long as you have your:

  • post code
  • name of your current energy supplier and
  • name of the tariff you're on

You'll be all set to compare energy prices using this information.

Yes! It's really worth switching your electricity and gas supplier or, at least, having a look at the market on a regular basis. At the moment this is difficult as there are not many energy deals in the market currently. When comparing energy prices, it makes sense to also look at other aspects, including:

  • Does the new tariff have exit fees?
  • Does your current tariff have exit fees?
  • Is the energy low-carbon or renewable?
  • Is the customer service reliable?
  • Can I service my account online?

Keep up to date with the process of your switch online or in the app. There's no need to call us – just sign up for MyAccount to get started.

If you want to cancel your switch to us, you should let us know straight away. What happens next depends on whether we've started supplying you with energy or not.

If we haven't yet started supplying you with energy – and you're still within your 14-day cooling off period

Just sit back and relax – you don't need to do anything. You'll stay put with your current supplier and we'll take care of the cancellation for you. We'll be back in touch to let you know when it's done.

If we've already started supplying you with energy and you’re still within your 14-day cooling off period

You have three options to choose from:

1. Stay with EDF and upgrade your energy plan

If you want to do this, simply give us a call on 0333 009 7114

2. Go back to your previous energy supplier

Please contact your previous supplier if you’d like to switch back to them. You should go back on equivalent terms and conditions.

3. Choose a new energy supplier

Please choose a new tariff with another supplier. You’ll have a new energy plan, contract and terms and conditions.

We'll also write to you to let you know about these options. While you decide what to do, you'll stay on the tariff you chose when you joined EDF and you'll need to cover the cost of any energy you use during your time with us.

You have 15 working days to make a decision from when we have sent you information about your cancellation. If you don't pick one of these three options or we don't hear from you within this time, you'll stay with EDF and move on to our deemed tariff. This means your energy prices can go up or down. You can check what our deemed prices are in the letter we send you outlining your choices.

No, you don't. We'll do that for you. Be sure to give us your meter readings. We'll be in touch with your old supplier to ensure they send you an accurate final bill.
